Empowering Youth Through Smart Agriculture
We are a local NGO based in Bougainville. Our primary objective is to promote sustainable and innovative agricultural and economic development through empowerment of youths by encouraging them in various trainings and workshops to enhance their skills and knowledge to adapt to new skills and knowledge in Agriculture. We are now focusing on advocacy and promoting of local Smart Agricultural initiatives with emphasis on preservation of local knowledge and skills.

Our Focus Areas
At Bougainville youth in Agriculture (BYIA) we believe youths are future of agriculture. The hands-on training, we offer is to support youths turn their farms into sustainable incoming generating pathway for living.
VCO Training
This program we train individuals with local capacity to produce high-quality virgin coconut oil. It covers the entire process- from selecting best dry coconut to extracting coconut cream, to filtration and bottling the Virgin Coconut Oil for consumption or for sale. This promotes a sustainable income among youths and women and turns into a reliable source of income.
Poultry Management
This program equips farmers with hands-on practical skills and knowledge on maintaining a small-scale poultry farm. It covers raising healthy chickens, nutrition and prevent diseases and generate income from selling eggs or chicken meat. Emphasis on cost-effective farming practice for poultry management
EarthBag Water Tank
We teach communities to affordable and eco-friendly water tanks using earth bags and locally sourced materials essential for storing rainwater for household use. The training covers tank design, construction techniques, waterproofing and maintenance. This is essential for rural and water-scarce areas.
Climate Resilient Crop Management
This service we focus on training farmers how to adapt to climate change by adapting best agricultural practices. The program emphasizes on sustainable soil use, drought-resistant crops, crop selection, pest management. These practices help farmers help protect their crop while securing long-term food security.
Family Farming
The training we provide aim to strengthen the role of a family unit by promoting teamwork, shared responsibilities and collaborative decision-making. Families learn to manage their farms more effectively and improve crop productivity. It encourages gender-inclusive participation of small-scale farming and sustainable farming techniques.
Financial Training
Our financial training program we provide is design to improve financial literacy among individuals and families. Participants learn how to budge, save, track income and expenses, invest while managing their farms or starting a business. The training also introduces basic bookkeeping and financial planning tailored for small business.
